Phone numbers start at launch. Until then, early access members call and text other Talkwish users by username, for free. This guide explains how numbers will work.
The Standard, Pro and Enterprise plans come with a real US or Canada phone number for each user. The Free plan works by username only, with no number. At launch, you choose your number when you pick a paid plan, and it stays yours while your plan is active.
Pick your number
- When you choose your plan, pick whether you want a US or Canada number.
- Enter the area code you’d like. A local area code helps people recognize your calls.
- Choose a number from the list of available numbers.
If an area code has no numbers available, try a nearby one. Numbers change as people sign up and leave, so it can also help to check again later.
What people see
When you call someone, they see your Talkwish number. They don’t see the number of the phone or computer you’re using.
Your number works for calls with any US or Canada number, so you can give it out like any other phone number. Calls and messages with other Talkwish users stay free. Texting with regular phone numbers is coming soon.
Need a different number?
You can pick a new number from your dashboard at any time. Your old number is released when you switch.
Keep in mind that a number you give up is released and may be given to someone else, so you can’t get it back later. Tell your contacts about your new number.
If you cancel
Your number stays yours until the end of the month or year you paid for. After that, we hold it for a short time in case you change your mind. Once it’s released, it may be given to someone else.
To move your number to another provider, email us before you cancel. We’ll tell you whether your number can be transferred and what to do next. Keep your plan active until the transfer is complete.
For more on canceling, see Manage your plan, credit and invoices.
