Spam and scam calls reach every kind of phone number, including internet numbers. Here’s how to protect yourself, and how to let us know when something isn’t right.
Protect yourself
- Let unknown calls go unanswered. If it’s important, the caller can leave a voicemail or try again.
- Don’t call back unknown numbers that left no message, especially ones that rang once and hung up.
- Never share codes or passwords. Talkwish never texts you, and we’ll never call, message or email you to ask for your password, a verification code or your card details. Anyone who does is not us.
- Don’t trust caller ID alone. Scammers can make a call look like it’s from a bank, a government office or even Talkwish.
- Hang up on pressure. Callers who demand payment right away, or ask for gift cards, are almost always scammers.
Report it to us
Email us from the address on your account and include:
- The number or Talkwish username that called or messaged you.
- The date and time, and your time zone.
- What happened, for example a scam, repeated calls, unwanted messages or threats.
If it belongs to a Talkwish account, we’ll look into it and act under our terms of service.
If you feel unsafe
If someone threatens you or you feel unsafe, contact your local police. Keep the voicemails and messages as evidence before you delete anything.
You can also report scams to the consumer protection agency where you live, like the Federal Trade Commission in the US or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre in Canada.
Keep your account safe too
Scammers sometimes try to take over phone accounts. See Keep your Talkwish account secure for the basics.
