You can’t use Talkwish to call 911 today. Always keep a mobile phone or landline available for emergencies.
Talkwish is built for everyday calls. It isn’t a replacement for a traditional phone line when you need emergency help.
911 isn’t available on Talkwish
Emergency calling isn’t available on Talkwish yet, so you can’t reach 911 with it. You can’t text 911 from Talkwish either. If you have an emergency, use a mobile phone or landline.
Why internet calls have limits
Even once emergency calling is offered, a call over the internet isn’t as dependable in an emergency as a traditional line.
- Internet calls can fail. If your internet connection or power goes down, the network is busy, or your device is off or out of battery, the call may not go through.
- Calls can reach the wrong place. An internet call may not send your correct location. If your address is wrong or out of date, help could be sent to the wrong place.
- Calls can take longer to connect. An emergency call over the internet may take longer to connect than on a traditional line.
Be ready for an emergency
- Keep a mobile phone or landline where you can reach it, and keep it charged.
- Make sure everyone in your home, and anyone else who uses your device or account, knows Talkwish can’t be used to call 911.
- Know your full address, so you can tell a dispatcher where you are when you call from another phone.
