Your browser keeps websites away from your microphone until you say yes. The first time you make or answer a call in the Talkwish web app, the browser asks for permission. Choose Allow, and you’re set.
If you chose Block by mistake, or the browser never asked, follow the steps for your browser below. Browser menus change from version to version, so the names you see may be slightly different.
Chrome
- With the web app open, select the icon to the left of the address bar.
- Find Microphone and turn it on, or set it to Allow.
- Reload the page.
You can also open Chrome’s settings, search for “microphone”, and check that app.talkwish.com isn’t in the list of sites that aren’t allowed to use it.
Edge
- With the web app open, select the icon to the left of the address bar.
- Open the permissions for this site and set Microphone to Allow.
- Reload the page.
You can also open Edge’s settings and search for “microphone” to see which sites are allowed or blocked.
Firefox
- With the web app open, look for the microphone icon in the address bar. A line through it means the microphone is blocked.
- Select it and clear the block for the microphone.
- Reload the page and start your call again. When Firefox asks, choose Allow.
To check later, open Firefox’s settings, go to Privacy & Security, scroll to Permissions and open the settings for Microphone.
Safari on a Mac
- With the web app open, open the Safari menu and choose Settings.
- Go to Websites, then Microphone.
- Find app.talkwish.com and set it to Allow.
- Reload the page.
Safari on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app and find the settings for Safari. On newer versions of iOS, they’re under Apps.
- Set Microphone to Ask or Allow.
- Go back to Safari, reload the web app and allow the microphone when asked.
Chrome on Android
- With the web app open, tap the icon to the left of the address bar.
- Open Permissions and turn on Microphone.
- If it still doesn’t work, open your phone’s Settings, go to Apps, then Chrome, then Permissions, and allow the microphone.
Check your computer’s privacy settings
Your computer can block the microphone for every app, including your browser.
- Windows 11: open Settings, then Privacy & security, then Microphone. Make sure microphone access is on and that desktop apps are allowed to use it.
- Windows 10: open Settings, then Privacy, then Microphone, and check the same options.
- Mac: open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone, and turn on your browser. You may need to quit and reopen the browser afterwards.
In the Talkwish app for Windows or Mac, the same settings apply. Set up the Talkwish desktop app has the details.
Still no sound?
- Make sure the right microphone and speaker are chosen. You can pick them in the audio settings of the web app.
- Close other apps that might be using the microphone, like video calling apps.
- Unplug your headset and plug it back in, then reload the page.
- If none of this helps, see Fix calls that don’t ring or keep dropping.
